Permaculture Ethics - People Care

Hi!

This week I will continue to talk about the Permaculture Ethics, and now it is time for People Care.

The website “permacultureprinciples.com" describes people care as follows: “If people’s needs are met in compassionate and simple ways, the environment surrounding them will prosper”

I really like this explanation and it rings true to me and to what I believe in. If you think about it, if we begin with ourselves looking at how our mood effects everything around us, this makes so much sense.

And even though we as humans only are a small part of the whole system, we can have a massive impact on it, good or bad. Therefore it is of great importance that we are taken care of so we can make good decisions towards ourselves and everything around us.

An easy example from day to day life to describe what impact a kind act can have: “You are greeted in a nice way by a stranger on your morning walk” vs “Everyone you meet is just looking down avoiding any human connection when they walk past you”. It doesn’t take much, but that greeting from a stranger can have a big impact on your present mood, and maybe inspire you to do something you haven’t had the courage to do that day!

So if we as people in our community could practice similar simple ways of being kind and compassionate towards others, this will create massive ripple effects by creating new friendships, connections, and more motivated people to do good for our beautiful planet!

Other than my example above, here are some other ways we can implement people care in our daily lives:

  • Take good care of yourself, make sure to do at least one thing you love each day.

  • Reach out to a friend or family member you haven’t spoken to in a while, check in on how they are going.

  • Tell your family members you love them

I hope I have inspired some of you to implement some of these actions each day, so that we together can create a healthier and happier society.

Next week, I will talk about the third and last ethic, Fair Share.

Hope to see you then!
